Johan and Sue Heyns started planting olive trees in 2009. Today there are more than 20,000 trees: Frantoio, Coratina, Favolosa, Nocellara, Mission and Kalamata. They press their own oil on the farm and sell in bulk to national distributors. They also supply farm stalls in the Overberg, and local supermarkets. Tastings by appointment only.
Johan and Wilma Punt and their sons Gilbert and Hendri nurture 1,200 olive trees on their 5.5Ha farm. The oil made from Frantoio, Leccino and Coratina (with a touch of Favolosa and Nocellara) is intense, fruity and made with the love and respect these trees from Biblical times deserve. The groves produce around 20 tons of olives which are pressed within 24 hours of being handpicked and the oils are blended to Bakenshoogte’s special recipe. Available on the farm.
Exdiem Wine & Olives
Exdiem Olive Oil is produced on the farm Vredelus, deep in Klaasvoogds West Valley, about 15km from Robertson. The Wentzel family started planting olive trees in 2012 and today there are 7,000 trees of 10 different cultivars on the farm. The olives are picked by hand and the oil is pressed on the farm. Our Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced from handpicked fruit that is milled and cold extracted to produce a smooth, unfiltered oil. The taste is pure Mediterranean with hints of green olives, artichokes and pepper. Like fine wines, the region, climate and varietals determine the taste and aroma of olive oils. Our olives are grown between small vineyard sites in well-drained sand and granite gravel soils in the foothills of the majestic Stellenbosch mountains within sight of the Atlantic Ocean.
Hans and Mary Ann Evenhuis planted 4,500 trees in 2007 and, with the addition of fruit from neighbouring farms, are producing up to 10,000 litres of excellent oil per annum. Their medium and intense style oils are made from Mission, Frantoio, Leccino and Coratina olives. Their oils have achieved various awards, including Gold and Silver at SA Olive. Reni Hildenbrand, author and a pioneer of the olive oil industry, has twice been awarded the Achiever of the Year for her contributions to the SA Olive Industry. Her own medium and intense oils are not submitted for the SA Olive Awards as she is a taster on the SA Olive Competition and the Panel Co-ordinator and Panel leader on the SA Tasting Panel. Reni is also an official, international judge for competitions in the southern hemisphere. Reni uses organic farming methods. Tasting weekdays from 10h00 – 16h00.
Kleinbergskloof Olive Estate
Hennie and Suna Volschenk started farming in 2001 and they now have 4,000 trees growing on limestone rich soil, producing a special character in their olives. Cultivars grown are Mission, Leccino, Frantoio, and Coratina from which they produce a medium style oil that has consistently won gold awards. Other products include marinated table olives and preserves. Kleinbergskloof has a popular wedding venue, tasting room, deli and restaurant overlooking the Goukou River.

Lions Creek Olive Estate
The Karoo village of Leeu Gamka was settled at the confluence of two rivers named after “lion” in Afrikaans and Khoisan respectively: the Leeu River and the Gamka River. Andries and Louise Rabie have named the farm after this life-giving source and nature’s most majestic predator that once roamed these parts. Lions Creek finely crafted Extra Virgin Olive Oil is imbued with these enduring characters. Don Carlo and Favolosa are offered as single varietals, while the Karoo Blend is an EVOO of which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Susan & Derek are the owners of Olive Boutique, a proudly South African olive oil, olive and vinegar tasting bar. The finest olives are selected to mill and blend our own EVOO and to produce an innovative range of cured olives and olive pastes. We contract press olives for small and medium growers, showcase independent producers and educate consumers about the taste, performance and health benefits of EVOO and olives. We blend our EVOO with essential oils to produce a range of nourishing skin and hair care products.
Hannes and Henriette Brummer run this boutique olive farm nestled in the rich limestone soil alongside the Goukou River. A medium and intense olive oil is blended from varietals such as Piqual, Arbequina, Frantoio, Leccino, Coratina and FS17. Table olives are produced from the Mission cultivar. The oils have achieved SA Olive Awards annually. Available from the estate, local shops in the Stilbaai area and throughout the Eastern Cape in local delis and Spar. This wine farm produces a fresh and appealing Extra Virgin Olive Oil with robust fruit flavours. A blend of two Italian varieties: 90% Frantoio which imparts a pleasant nutty flavour and 10% Coratina which adds a peppery flavour. Van der Stel Pass, Bot River
Jo and Tessa Neser are the enthusiastic EVOO producers on this picturesque Overberg farm. They bought the farm with 2,200 Manzanilla, Ogliarola, Nocellara, Mission and Kalamata trees (planted in 1996). They have doubled the production by transplanting 800 mature Mission trees from Worcester in 2013 and 1,000 mature, seven year-old Frantoio, Coratina, Favolosa (FS17) and IS17 trees from Elgin in 2015. A distinctive medium style oil is extracted at Anysbos and packaged in beautiful, blue 1 litre tins.
Wildekrans Wine Estate
Three styles of Extra Virgin Olive Oil are produced on the estate from 7,326 trees with more plantings to come. The Keerweer blend was one of the ABSA Top 10 oils last year. The very same terroir responsible for our wines has an equal influence on our olives with unique conditions such as the cooling sea breeze creating distinctive flavours.
