Tasting Notes

The high-altitude climate of Mount Ceder’s location intensifies the aroma, complexity and freshness of the oils and olives.
Our medium-style oil has aromatic notes of fresh cut grass, green almond, green apple and olive leaf. It is a well-balanced oil with refreshing bitterness and a noticeable, but not overpowering, pepperiness. The oil has a silky mouthfeel with a lingering, herbaceous finish.

History & Culture

The original farm, Grootrivier, was used for tobacco farming and by the 20th century, the area was also used for livestock grazing. In 1876 a forester was appointed in the Cederberg to oversee crown land — one of the early instances of formal conservation. Today the farm Mount Ceder is owned by two families, Vorster and Marais, who established the first olive groves in 2003. We practise biological farming which is deeply embedded in the ethos of custodianship of the land and the people. Every olive or drop of oil from Mount Ceder is imbued with this ethos.
